A biannual journal of the Centre for Jawaharlal Nehru Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia
Over the course of last five decades, disciplinary boundaries and development paradigms have been interrogated afresh. Contemporary Perspectives: History and Sociology of South Asia, a biannual publication of the Centre for Jawaharlal Nehru Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, attempts to map significant historical processes and the transformation of the social, economic and political fabric of South Asian societies.
The Journal hopes to present an interdisciplinary space where contemporary ideas would compete and a critique of existing perspectives would be encouraged.
The disciplinary focus of this journal lies across History and Sociology which enables it to delve into research areas like political economy, social ecology, minority rights, gender and environmental issues. Contemporary Perspectives seeks to promote a dialogue on socio-political problems, from which academicians as well as activists and advocacy groups can benefit. Apart from scholarly articles, the journal has sections titled Perspective and Commentary which will include peer reviewed academic or non-academic polemical essays and short commentaries on current issues. The report section will include conference reports from different academic and research institutions. The last section will include book reviews which relate to the interdisciplinary scope of the journal.
